ABOUT
›My research focuses on societal polarization, information integrity, and digital participation. I am a researcher in Information Systems, holding a PhD from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where my dissertation explored how immersive systems can enhance public participation. Before that, I studied Political Science, Governance, and Public Policy in Berlin (Freie Universität Berlin), Friedrichshafen (Zeppelin University), and Porto Alegre (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul), supported by the Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich Scholarship Fund (ELES) and the BMW Foundation.
I lead the Digital Democracy & Participation research group – a joint initiative of KIT and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology, with an outstanding team of six PhD students whom I currently advise. At FZI, I head the House of Participation (HoP). In my work, I combine qualitative and quantitative (experimental) methods with Design Science Research and AI-based approaches to better understand how technology can empower citizens and strengthen democratic societies. Together with partners from academia, industry, government, and civil society, I develop computational methods and design systems to analyze polarization, detect disinformation and deepfakes, and foster digital involvement.
Before joining academia, I worked in the German Bundestag (2008–2014) and later helped establish the initiatives and structures of the Jewish Scholarship Fund ELES as Senior Program Manager (2014–2018).
I am Deputy Chair of the Advisory Board of ELES, a member of the Coalition for Pluralistic Public Discourse (CPPD), and an ROI Fellow of the Schusterman Family Foundation. I also serve on the board of Die Wirtschaftsinformatik e.V., the association representing the Information Systems community in Germany, where I am responsible for political and societal transfer. Together with Pauline Reitzer, I host the House of Participation Podcast (HoPcast), featuring in-depth conversations on democracy, participation, and digital transformation.
